Club Los Globos, Los Angeles – March 24, 2019
Live Report and Photos by David Cirone
Japanese heavy metal band ASTERISM made their first-ever stop in Los Angeles on March 24, 2019, at Club Los Globos, the final show in their first U.S. tour which began at SXSW the week before.
The young group, led by guitarist HALCA (guitar) backed by brother Miyu (bass) and Mio (drums), performed an impressive one-hour set comprised of their original tracks, tributes to metal legends Metallica, Dio, and a “Helter Skelter” cover owing more to Motley Crue’s power guitar version than the Beatles’ original, one of many choices that amped the crowd of metalheads who came to support the trio.
ASTERISM’s near vocal-less set list put the focus on their marvelous technical chops, but the members’ charisma and up-close interaction with the audience kept the energy going in a near seamless run. As cool as the cover songs were, the highlights were the band’s originals “BLAZE”, “Rising Moon”, and the intricate 9-minute-plus “DAWN”, giving the spotlight to each of the members during the encore.
